Dog care is an important element that all dogs deserve But unfortunately, some dogs sometimes do not get the care they deserve and so find themselves on the streets. Most often animal rescue centers have to intervene and take these animals to shelters.
A staggering 130,000 dogs in the UK find themselves in shelters each year. Reading this information on the internet sent goosebumps on Gregg. He has always been an animal rights advocate who championed the need to show care, love, and compassion to all creatures.
On one steaming afternoon in autumn 2023, Gregg and his family strode to the nearby Dogs Rescue Centre in Glasgow to learn more about caring for rescue dogs. His wife and two children, Hill and Bill, were thrilled as Johnson, manager at the Rescue Center, educated them on the benefits of owning dogs. The Gregg family were all excited about the decision and were happy to adopt one of the dogs.
Gregg and his family were particularly drawn to a Chihuahua breed called Macho. Macho was rescued and taken to the animal shelter after it was nearly hit by a speeding vehicle. Macho has gone through a lot of traumatic experiences which has made him very timid and afraid of any human contact. The team at the shelter center was trying their best to make Macho feel at home but because of the large number of dogs at the shelter, it was practically impossible to give Macho the special attention he needed in order to fully recover. Macho was better off being fostered by a caring loving family that could dedicate more attention to it.
Touched by Macho’s story, Gregg and his family made a formal request to the shelter center to adopt him and give him that special care and love that it was in need of.
After many rounds of inspection to ensure that Gregg and his family had the necessary dog care facilities to make Macho feel secure, the shelter center finally granted the Gregg family’s request and invited them for a short orientation before handing Macho over to them.
Johnson, the manager at the Dog Rescue Center advised the family about the benefits of dog trackers to the fostering of dogs. For Macho in particular, Johnson said it will take a little time for it to adjust to its new home and therefore there was the need to get the best dog tracker to ensure Macho did not stray back onto the streets.
Johnson further said that dogs just like humans have their own allergies and gave the Gregg family tips on choosing the right dog treats for Macho. He said knowing the best treats for dogs could not only boost the nutritional needs of dogs but also serve as a therapy for building trust between dog owners and their dogs. Macho joined the Gregg family with his tail tucked between his legs, unsure of what to expect. Gregg and his family provided a caring home to Macho and gave him time to adjust to the new environment and feel at home. In the days that followed, Macho was quickly recovering from his past. His furs were beginning to grow beautifully and his once-malnourished body was now taking shape. The Gregg family was all excited about the progress Macho was making and the fact that he was now an integral member of their family. Beyond this, the family was also beginning to understand the full benefits of fostering a rescue dog including the following; Firstly, the family realized that their decision to adopt Macho had given him a second chance in a caring loving home. Stray dogs often go through a lot of physical, emotional, and psychological abuse. Fostering such rescued dogs gives them the opportunity to feel loved once again and heal from their broken past. Secondly, Gregg and his family also realised that a strong bond had developed between the family and Macho. This was evidenced in the fact that Macho’s presence was felt everywhere in the house including the bedroom, the living room, and even the kitchen. His glooming body and wagging tail was the first thing that greeted the Gregg family when they woke up from bed. This bond provided companionship and increased the trust the dog had in humans. Also, fostering the dog was also an excellent way for Gregg to teach his children a sense of empathy and responsibility. All creatures of nature deserve to be treated with care, empathy, and love. By fostering the dog, Gregg is inadvertently teaching his children to respect all manner of people irrespective of their background. By taking turns feeding the dog, providing him with fresh water, and taking him for walks, Gregg is teaching his children to take up responsibility. In addition, fostering rescued dogs also means freeing up spaces at dog rescue centers for other equally stray dogs that need to be rescued. Dog Rescue Centers get overwhelmed by the huge number of dogs in their care and therefore fostering such dogs is an excellent way for the dogs to receive the special attention they need to ensure their emotional recovery. Again, fostering such rescued dogs helps to raise awareness about the condition of shelter animals such as dogs. Gregg and his family could help other dogs in similar situations by sharing their experience on social media to educate the public about the importance of adoption, responsible pet ownership, and the impact of their actions Fostering pets like dogs also provides an excellent opportunity to learn more about the traits of these animals. Most often, human beings take animals for granted but animals have also emotions, worries, and happy moments. Fostering provides a supportive environment for humans to communicate with dogs through diverse ways to understand their needs. Through consistent care, socialization, and positive reinforcement, foster families can help the dogs build confidence, improve behavior, and increase their chances of trust between human beings and dogs. All in all, fostering provides a temporary safe haven for rescued dogs, offering numerous benefits not only to the canine companions but also to the individuals who open their hearts and homes to them.
